FAQ
Ordering online, mail-in tuning from anywhere in the US, Stage 1 and Stage 2, add-ons, warranty and our shop — straight answers to the questions we hear most.
Choosing a tune, paying and what happens after you order.
Start with your vehicle: select your make, model and year above to see the Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes and add-ons available for it, with factory and tuned figures where we have them. As a rule, Stage 1 suits a car that is stock or close to it and runs on pump-grade fuel, while Stage 2 is for cars with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and high-octane fuel.
No. Add-ons such as the TCU tune, CPC tune and map switching are ordered together with a Stage 1 or Stage 2 ECU tune.
Each order is for one vehicle. You can order a Stage 1 or Stage 2 tune for it together with the add-ons offered for that vehicle; for a second car, place a separate order.
Checkout is handled securely on our site by Stripe, and we accept major credit and debit cards. Your card details go directly to Stripe and are never stored on our servers.
Yes. Once your payment is confirmed we email your order confirmation, listing your vehicle, what you ordered and the items to ship, with the shipping instructions. Print it and include it in the box with your ECU.
Refunds follow our Refund Policy, which you review and accept at checkout. Read the Refund Policy.
Contact us with your year, make and model before you ship anything. Where a vehicle isn't in our online catalog, or needs custom Stage 2 development, we quote it directly.
Removing, packing and shipping your ECU, and how long it takes.
Yes. Every tune in our online store is a mail-in service, available wherever you are in the US: select your vehicle and tune, check out, then print your order confirmation email and ship it in the box with your ECU to our shop. You pay to ship your ECU to us, and we pay for return shipping. Calibration turnaround is two business days, beginning when your ECU is received; inbound and return shipping transit time is not included. Our ECU shipping instructions explain how to pack it.
Your car can't be driven while its ECU is out. Plan for the shipping time each way plus two business days of calibration, which begins when your ECU is received. A faster shipping service shortens the wait.
Only if your order includes a TCU or CPC tune; then ship that module in the same box as your ECU. Your order confirmation email lists every item to ship. Map switching needs nothing extra.
For a mail-in tune we need the module itself, so it has to come out of the car. How that's done differs from car to car; if you'd rather not do it yourself, a local shop can remove and reinstall it for you. If you're unsure, call us before you order.
We recommend it. Ship with a tracked service, insure the package for the value of the module, and keep your tracking number until your order is complete.
You pay to ship your ECU to Plus Plus Calibration. Plus Plus Calibration pays for return shipping to the return-shipping address on your order.
Contact us at (480) 400-8005 or [email protected] and we can resend it. The printed confirmation needs to be in the box with your ECU.
What Stage 1, Stage 2 and the add-ons do.
A Stage 1 tune is an ECU calibration for the car as it left the factory, delivering meaningful horsepower and torque gains on pump-grade fuel while preserving factory reliability. A Stage 2 tune is a more aggressive calibration paired with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes, intercoolers or high-flow intakes, delivering maximum safe gains on high-octane fuel. Where a vehicle needs custom Stage 2 development, we quote it directly.
It depends on your car and the stage you choose. Turbocharged engines gain the most; naturally aspirated cars see more modest gains because there is less hidden headroom in the factory map. Select your make, model and year to see factory, Stage 1 and Stage 2 horsepower and torque from our catalog.
On cars with a dual-clutch transmission, a TCU (transmission control unit) tune gives sharper upshifts, stronger clutch clamping and raised torque limits, so the gearbox can handle the new power without slipping. It is available as an add-on for selected Porsche, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi models and is included with some tunes. Select your vehicle above to see whether a TCU tune is offered for it.
The CPC (central powertrain controller) is a module on many recent Mercedes-Benz and AMG models that coordinates the engine and transmission. Where your car has one, our catalog offers a CPC tune alongside the ECU tune; you ship the CPC in the same box as your ECU.
Map switching lets you switch between calibrations from the driver’s seat. It is an add-on for selected Ferrari, Porsche, McLaren, BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz models, ordered together with a Stage 1 or Stage 2 tune, and needs nothing extra shipped.
What a tune means for your warranty and your engine.
Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer cannot blanket-void your warranty just because you tuned the ECU — they must prove the tune caused the specific failure. That said, dealers still deny warranty claims they associate with aftermarket tuning, and most exotic manufacturers keep detailed ECU flash counters we can read. We're upfront about the trade-off: if your Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche, or McLaren is under factory warranty and you rely on that coverage, understand that some dealers may push back. For out-of-warranty vehicles the question is moot, and for daily-driven enthusiasts who want maximum performance, the calibration is usually worth it.
A well-developed tune is safe. A bad tune destroys engines. The difference is methodology: we leave meaningful knock margin on the table, we verify air-fuel ratios across the full load and RPM range, we set torque limiters conservatively, and we never chase peak numbers at the expense of part-throttle drivability or cold-start reliability. Every car that leaves our shop has documented knock counts and a lambda trace showing the calibration behaves predictably. Reliability is a calibration input, not an afterthought.
In-shop tuning, hours and where we are.
Yes. Phoenix-area owners can book an in-shop tune at 952 W Melinda Ln, Suite D. In-shop tunes include before-and-after dyno sheets and data logs, and most Stage 1 tunes are completed in a single day.
Most Stage 1 ECU-only calibrations are a single-day appointment — drop off in the morning, pick up in the afternoon with dyno sheets in hand. Stage 2 builds with supporting mods typically run two to three days depending on installation complexity. TCU tunes add a half-day. Flex-fuel and methanol-injection development is longer (three to five days) because we have to validate across multiple fuel blend ratios.
