Plus Plus Calibration delivers BMW ECU and transmission tuning nationwide for the turbocharged six-cylinder and V8 engines behind BMW’s M cars and M Performance models. Stage 1 and Stage 2 calibrations for more than 35 BMW models can be ordered online, with a TCU tune available for almost every model and map switching for the M2, M3 and M4.

A short history of BMW M

BMW M began in 1972 as BMW Motorsport GmbH, the company’s racing division. Its first road cars followed — the mid-engined M1 in 1978 and the original M3 in 1986 — and M has built the high-performance versions of BMW’s range ever since.

Modern BMWs are almost all turbocharged. A 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six powers M Performance models such as the M340i, M440i and X3 M40i; twin-turbo straight-sixes power the M3, M4 and M2 Competition; and 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8s drive the M5, M8, X5 M and the 50i and M550i models. Paired with eight-speed automatics or M dual-clutch gearboxes, they leave generous headroom for calibration.

Stage 1 BMW ECU tune

A Stage 1 BMW calibration is developed for stock hardware on pump fuel. It reshapes boost targets, ignition timing and torque limits for stronger mid-range pull and a harder top end. In our online catalog, a 2024 M340i goes from 382 hp to 495 hp at Stage 1.

Stage 2 BMW ECU tune with bolt-ons

Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. Our catalog lists the same M340i at 515 hp at Stage 2, and a 2023 M5 Competition goes from 591 hp stock to 780 hp at Stage 1 and 860 hp at Stage 2.

BMW TCU tuning and map switching

BMW’s automatic and dual-clutch gearboxes have their own control unit with their own torque limits. A TCU tune raises those limits to match the engine calibration and sharpens the shifts, and it can be added to almost every BMW in our catalog — ship the TCU with your ECU and we calibrate both.

For the M2, M3 and M4, map switching lets you switch between calibrations from the driver’s seat.

Mail-in BMW tuning

Mail-in tuning works from anywhere in the US. Order your BMW tune online, ship us your ECU with your printed order confirmation email, and we calibrate it within two business days of receiving it, then ship it back at our cost. Inbound and return shipping transit time is not included.

BMW tuning in our shop

Phoenix-area BMW owners can bring their car to our shop. There, every calibration is checked on our in-shop dyno, with before-and-after dyno sheets, full data logging of air-fuel ratios, boost and knock, a written summary of every change, and a short road drive to confirm drivability.
