About the BMW M6 (F12 / F13 / F06)

Three body styles, one drivetrain: the F-series M6 put the M5 sedan’s twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 into the 6 Series coupe (F13), the convertible (F12) and, from the 2014 model year, the four-door Gran Coupe (F06). Each drives its rear wheels through a seven-speed M DCT dual-clutch gearbox and an Active M Differential, and from 2014 BMW also offered a six-speed manual, developed in-house by BMW M, at no extra cost on all three.

The coupe and Gran Coupe carry a carbon-fiber roof panel, while the convertible has a fabric top that opens and closes automatically. BMW quotes 0–60 mph in 4.1 seconds for the coupe and Gran Coupe and 4.2 seconds for the convertible, with top speed limited to 155 mph. M Carbon ceramic brakes joined the options list for the 2014 model year.

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 560 hp and 502 lb-ft to 730 hp and 710 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 760 hp and 750 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

FAQ

M6 (F12 / F13 / F06) tuning questions

More answers in our FAQ

Which years of the M6 (F12 / F13 / F06) does this tune fit?

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2013–2017 BMW M6 (F12 / F13 / F06) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.

Which M6 body styles does this page cover?

All three: the F13 coupe, the F12 convertible and the F06 four-door Gran Coupe. They share the twin-turbo V8, the gearbox choices and rear-wheel drive, and differ in body, roof and weight; by BMW’s figures the convertible is a tenth of a second slower to 60 mph.

How is the M6 related to the F10 M5?

Closely. The M6 and the F10 M5 use the same twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8, seven-speed M DCT and Active M Differential, and both were offered with a six-speed manual in North America. The M5 is the four-door sedan and is listed on our M5 (F10) page.

What is the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2 on the M6 (F12 / F13 / F06)?

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2017 car, Stage 1 takes it from 560 hp to 730 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 760 hp.

Do I need a TCU tune for the M6 (F12 / F13 / F06)?

A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($1,999). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
