A short history of Audi performance

Audi changed performance cars in 1980 with the quattro, which brought permanent all-wheel drive to a turbocharged road car and went on to win the World Rally Championship. In 1994 the RS2 Avant, developed with Porsche, began the line of RS models.

The R8 supercar followed in 2006, and from 2009 it was offered with a 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 from the engine family it shares with Lamborghini. Today’s RS and S models are turbocharged: a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 in the RS5, and a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 — the same family used in the Lamborghini Urus and Porsche Cayenne Turbo — in the RS7, RS Q8, S8, SQ7 and SQ8.

Our online catalog covers these Audi models:

  • R8 V10, R8 V10 Plus and R8 V10 Performance — 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10.
  • RS7 (2013–2019) and RS Q8 — 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8.
  • S8, SQ7 and SQ8 — 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8.
  • RS5 — 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6.
  • S6 and S7 — twin-turbo V8 in earlier models and twin-turbo V6 in later ones.
  • S4, S5, Q7 and Q8 — 3.0-liter turbocharged V6.

Audi R8 V10 tuning

The R8’s V10 is naturally aspirated, so there is no boost to raise: calibration focuses on ignition timing, cam phasing, throttle mapping and the rev limit, for sharper response and a stronger pull to the redline. Our catalog lists a 2021 R8 V10 at 650 hp at Stage 1 and 680 hp at Stage 2, from 562 hp stock.

Stage 1 and Stage 2 for the RS and S models

The twin-turbo RS and S models have far more headroom. A Stage 1 calibration on pump fuel reshapes boost, ignition timing and torque limits; Stage 2 pairs it with supporting modifications such as downpipes and high-octane fuel. In our online catalog, a 2023 RS Q8 goes from 592 hp to 780 hp at Stage 1 and 800 hp at Stage 2, and a 2019 RS7 from 553 hp to 740 hp at Stage 2.

Audi TCU tuning and map switching

Every Audi in our catalog can take a TCU tune for its automatic or S tronic dual-clutch gearbox, raising the torque limits to match the engine calibration and sharpening the shifts — ship the TCU with your ECU and we calibrate both. Map switching, to switch between calibrations from the driver’s seat, is available for the R8.

Audi tuning in our shop

Phoenix-area Audi owners can bring their car to our shop. There, every calibration is checked on our in-shop dyno, with before-and-after dyno sheets, full data logging of air-fuel ratios, boost and knock, a written summary of every change, and a short road drive to confirm drivability.
