About the Audi Q7 (4M)

Audi’s second-generation Q7, known internally as the 4M, reached the US for the 2017 model year as the brand’s three-row family SUV. Every US Q7 seats seven, with a power-folding 50/50 third row, and the later cars are rated to tow up to 7,700 lb.

The years on this page straddle an engine change. The 2019 Q7 still used the supercharged 3.0-liter TFSI V6, while the facelifted 2020 model introduced a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6, with a twin-scroll turbocharger inside the cylinder vee and a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. Both versions send their power through an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic to quattro all-wheel drive.

The 2020 update also brought a larger octagonal Singleframe grille with six vertical slats, available HD Matrix-design LED and laser headlights, a chrome strip across the tail, and two touchscreens in place of most physical controls. All-wheel steering and adaptive air suspension were on the options list.

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 376 hp and 443 lb-ft to 425 hp and 440 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 460 hp and 480 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

FAQ

Q7 (4M) tuning questions

More answers in our FAQ

Which years of the Q7 (4M) does this tune fit?

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2019–2023 Audi Q7 (4M) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.

How do I tell a 2019 Q7 from the facelifted 2020 model?

Look at the grille and the dashboard. The 2020 Q7 has an octagonal grille with six vertical chrome slats, and two stacked touchscreens of 10.1 and 8.6 inches take over most of the physical controls; the 2019 car keeps the earlier grille and dashboard. Under the hood, the 2019 engine is supercharged and the 2020 one turbocharged.

How is the Q7 different from the SQ7?

The SQ7 shares the three-row body but replaces the V6 with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and adds standard all-wheel steering, with a sport differential and electromechanical active roll stabilization available. It has its own page, SQ7.

What is the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2 on the Q7 (4M)?

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2023 car, Stage 1 takes it from 376 hp to 425 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 460 hp.

Do I need a TCU tune for the Q7 (4M)?

A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($2,499). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
