About the Audi Q8

Audi of America introduced the Q8 in September 2018 as the top SUV of the brand, and the first US cars were 2019 models. It shares its foundations with the Q7 but answers a different brief: five seats instead of seven, frameless doors, and a lower, coupe-like roofline with design cues from the original Audi quattro, on a body that is shorter and wider than its three-row sibling.

Every US Q8 uses the 55 TFSI drivetrain: a 3.0-liter V6 with a twin-scroll turbocharger mounted inside the vee and Audi valvelift, supported by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system with a belt alternator starter. An eight-speed Tiptronic and quattro with a 40:60 front-to-rear split are standard, and Audi quotes 0–60 mph in 5.6 seconds.

Adaptive damping is standard, and the Adaptive Chassis package adds air suspension and all-wheel steering. In the cabin, the rear bench slides and splits 40/20/40.

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 335 hp and 369 lb-ft to 425 hp and 440 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 460 hp and 480 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

FAQ

Q8 tuning questions

More answers in our FAQ

Which years of the Q8 does this tune fit?

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2018–2023 Audi Q8 models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.

What is the difference between the Q8 and the Q7?

The Q7 is the family SUV, with three rows and seven seats under a taller roof. The Q8 gives up the third row for a sloping roofline, frameless doors and a sliding rear bench, and it had the turbocharged mild-hybrid V6 from its launch, a year before the Q7. The three-row model has its own page, Q7 (4M).

How does the Q8 relate to the SQ8 and RS Q8?

All three share the coupe-style Q8 body. The SQ8 replaces the V6 with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, and the RS Q8 uses a higher-output version of that V8 with a standard sport differential, all-wheel steering and active roll stabilization. Both have their own pages, SQ8 and RS Q8.

What is the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2 on the Q8?

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2023 car, Stage 1 takes it from 335 hp to 425 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 460 hp.

Do I need a TCU tune for the Q8?

A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($2,499). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
