About the Audi S5 (B9)

Three body styles carry the B9 S5 badge: a two-door Coupe, a Cabriolet with a fabric top, and the five-door Sportback, which 2018 brought to the US for the first time. The Sportback combines the low roofline of the coupe with rear doors and a hatchback.

Mechanically the S5 matches the S4 sedan. Its 3.0-liter TFSI V6 swaps the previous S5’s supercharger for a twin-scroll turbocharger, and power reaches the road through an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic and quattro all-wheel drive with a 40:60 split. The earlier S5 offered a seven-speed S tronic or a six-speed manual; this generation is automatic only.

The four-seat Cabriolet’s top opens in 15 seconds and closes in 18 at speeds up to 31 mph, and Audi quotes 0–60 mph in 4.8 seconds for it.

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 354 hp and 369 lb-ft to 425 hp and 440 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 460 hp and 480 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

FAQ

S5 (B9) tuning questions

More answers in our FAQ

Which years of the S5 (B9) does this tune fit?

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2018–2024 Audi S5 (B9) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.

Do the S5 Coupe, Sportback and Cabriolet share a drivetrain?

Yes. All three use the turbocharged 3.0-liter V6, the eight-speed Tiptronic and quattro. They differ in body and seating: the Coupe and Cabriolet are two-door four-seaters, and the Sportback adds rear doors and a hatchback.

How does the S5 differ from the RS 5?

The RS 5 of the same generation uses a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 with considerably more output and comes with a quattro sport differential as standard, and it was offered as a Coupe and Sportback but not as a Cabriolet. It has its own page, RS 5 (B9).

What is the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2 on the S5 (B9)?

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2024 car, Stage 1 takes it from 354 hp to 425 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 460 hp.

Do I need a TCU tune for the S5 (B9)?

A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($2,499). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
