The car
Put a V8 in Audi’s three-row SUV and the result is the SQ7, which came to the US for the 2020 model year with a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged TFSI engine that also has cylinder on demand. Europe had known the SQ7 first as a diesel, the TDI with an electrically powered compressor that Audi called a world first in a production vehicle. That version was never sold in the US, and Europe moved to the gasoline V8 in 2020.
Drive goes through an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic and quattro with a 40:60 split. Audi of America made all-wheel steering standard, and offered a sport differential that can send up to 80 percent of the torque to the rear and 48-volt electromechanical active roll stabilization as options. Audi quotes 0–60 mph in 4.3 seconds and an electronically limited 155 mph.
All seven seats remain, so it suits owners who need the third row as well as the pace.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 500 hp and 568 lb-ft to 675 hp and 690 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 720 hp and 738 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

They share the 4.0-liter V8, the gearbox, quattro and the chassis options. The SQ7 has three rows and seven seats under a taller roof; the SQ8 has five seats, a sliding rear bench, frameless doors and a sloping coupe-style roof. The SQ8 has its own page.
No. The SQ7 TDI, with its electrically powered compressor, was sold in Europe but never in the US. This page is for the gasoline SQ7 with the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter TFSI V8.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2023 car, Stage 1 takes it from 500 hp to 675 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 720 hp.
A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($2,499). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
