The car
Positioned between the Q8 and the RS Q8, the SQ8 puts a V8 into Audi’s coupe-roofed SUV. It reached the US for the 2020 model year with five seats, a 40/20/40 sliding rear bench, frameless doors and 21-inch wheels as standard, and 22-inch wheels on the options list.
The drivetrain is shared with the SQ7: a 4.0-liter twin-turbo TFSI V8, an eight-speed Tiptronic and quattro with a 40:60 split, and Audi gives both cars the same acceleration and top-speed figures. All-wheel steering is standard, and the Sport Package adds active roll stabilization, the quattro sport differential and red brake calipers.
For buyers choosing between the two V8 versions of the Q8, the SQ8 is the less extreme of the two, while the RS Q8 takes the same body further with a more powerful version of the V8 and more of the chassis technology fitted as standard. In Europe the SQ8 was first sold with a V8 TDI, which never came to the US.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 500 hp and 568 lb-ft to 675 hp and 690 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 720 hp and 738 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2020–2023 Audi SQ8 models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.
Mechanically, yes: the same twin-turbo V8, eight-speed automatic and quattro drive, with standard all-wheel steering on both. What changes is the body. The SQ8 trades the third row for a lower roof, frameless doors and a sliding two-row cabin. The three-row model has its own page, SQ7.
The RS Q8 is the top performance version of the same body. Its 4.0-liter V8 has much more output, and the sport differential and active roll stabilization that are options on the SQ8 come as standard. It has its own page, RS Q8.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2023 car, Stage 1 takes it from 500 hp to 675 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 720 hp.
A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($2,499). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
