About the Audi S6 / S7 (C7)

In the C7 generation, Audi’s mid-size S models came as two bodies with one drivetrain: the S6 sedan and the S7, a five-door Sportback with a sloping roof and a hatchback. Both use a 4.0-liter TFSI V8 whose two turbochargers and intercooler sit inside the vee, and cylinder on demand can shut down four of its eight cylinders at light load to save fuel.

Power reaches the road through a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch gearbox and quattro all-wheel drive with a self-locking center differential. That gearbox is the clearest mechanical difference from the RS 7 (C7) of the same years, which uses an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic and a version of the V8 with a higher factory rating.

The C8 generation that followed replaced the V8 with a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6, a mild-hybrid system and an eight-speed Tiptronic, and it has its own page, S6 / S7 (C8).

On a 2019 car, Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 420 hp and 406 lb-ft to 560 hp and 580 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 580 hp and 600 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

FAQ

S6 / S7 (C7) tuning questions

More answers in our FAQ

Which years of the S6 / S7 (C7) does this tune fit?

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2014–2019 Audi S6 / S7 (C7) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; figures and prices for each year are shown in the table above.

How do I tell a C7 S6 or S7 from a C8?

Open the hood or check the gearbox. A C7 has the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch, while the C8 has a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 with mild-hybrid assistance and an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic. The two generations are listed separately; the C8 has its own page, S6 / S7 (C8).

How does the C7 S7 compare with the RS 7 (C7)?

The RS 7 starts from the same Sportback body and 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 but has a higher factory rating, an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic and its own styling and chassis settings, while the S7 keeps the dual-clutch gearbox. The RS 7 is listed on its own page.

What is the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2 on the S6 / S7 (C7)?

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2019 car, Stage 1 takes it from 420 hp to 560 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 580 hp.

Do I need a TCU tune for the S6 / S7 (C7)?

A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($2,499). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
