The car
With the R8’s 2020 update, Audi of America gave its top model a new name: the V10 performance, described as the car previously known as the R8 V10 plus. It keeps the 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10, the seven-speed S tronic and quattro drive, and Audi quotes 0–60 mph in 3.2 seconds for the coupe and a top speed of 205 mph.
Next to the R8 V10 quattro sold alongside it in 2020, the performance model has carbon-ceramic brakes as standard where the V10 has steel wave discs, and a fixed sport suspension in place of magnetic ride. Titanium-finish lower trim, 20-inch milled wheels, and carbon side blades and mirror housings complete the visual changes.
It was offered as a coupe and as a Spyder, and it was the last chapter for the car: Audi of America confirmed 2023 as the R8’s final model year, closing with the limited R8 GT.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 612 hp and 428 lb-ft to 650 hp and 460 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 680 hp and 480 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

It is the successor. The V10 performance took over the V10 plus’s role from 2020, with the same engine layout and quattro drive but the updated R8’s restyled front end and revised trim. The earlier car has its own page, R8 V10 plus (second generation).
The performance model has more power, standard carbon-ceramic brakes and a fixed sport suspension, where the R8 V10 uses steel brakes and magnetic ride adaptive dampers. It also gets titanium-finish trim and milled wheels. The R8 V10 has its own page, R8 V10 (second generation).
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2023 car, Stage 1 takes it from 612 hp to 650 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 680 hp.
A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($2,499). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
