The car
BMW never sold a car badged plain 240i in the US. The six-cylinder version of the F22 2 Series coupe and F23 convertible was the M235i through the 2016 model year and the M240i from 2017, and it sat below the M2 as the quickest 2 Series without a full M badge.
The change of name came with a change of engine: the M240i uses the 3.0-liter B58 inline-six, with its twin-scroll turbocharger integrated into the exhaust manifold, in place of the M235i’s earlier six. Both were offered with an eight-speed Sport automatic or, at no extra cost, a six-speed manual, and xDrive could be ordered with the automatic.
BMW quotes 0–60 mph in 4.4 seconds for the rear-drive M240i coupe with the automatic and 4.2 with xDrive. The 2018 update brought LED headlights and taillights, and for 2020 the M240i received a Cerium Grey kidney frame.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 320 hp and 330 lb-ft to 435 hp and 445 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 460 hp and 475 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2016–2020 BMW 240i (F22) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.
The catalog lists this car as the 240i for 2016 to 2020. In the US, 2016 was the last year of the M235i, and the M240i with the B58 engine replaced it for 2017. The two look much alike, so check the badge on the trunk lid, and contact us before ordering if yours is an M235i.
The M240i (G42) is the second-generation 2 Series Coupe, sold in the US from the 2022 model year. It comes only as a coupe and only with an automatic, and it launched with xDrive as standard. The F22 and F23 cars offered a convertible, a manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive throughout.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2020 car, Stage 1 takes it from 320 hp to 435 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 460 hp.
A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($1,999). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
