The car
When the X6 went on sale for 2008, it was a new kind of BMW: an all-wheel-drive SUV with the roofline of a coupe, which the company called a Sports Activity Coupe. The xDrive50i was its V8 model, and the catalog’s years take in two generations.
The 2014 cars are the last of the E71, with the original version of the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8. The F16 reached US showrooms in late 2014 as a 2015 model, with the reworked V8 from the F15 X5, which adds Valvetronic variable valve control, and BMW quoted 0–60 mph in 4.8 seconds. Both generations use xDrive and an eight-speed automatic.
Against the X5 it shares so much with, the X6 trades rear headroom and load space for its sloping roof. The E71 came as a four-seater, with a three-seat rear bench offered from the 2012 model year.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 449 hp and 480 lb-ft to 580 hp and 605 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 610 hp and 650 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2014–2018 BMW X6 xDrive50i models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.
Two. A 2014 X6 xDrive50i is a late E71, the first-generation X6; cars from the 2015 model year on are the F16, with new styling, a new interior and the updated V8. The catalog lists them under one name, so check your model year when ordering.
No. The X6 M is BMW M’s version, with its own engine tuning, chassis and catalog figures, and it is listed on the X5 M / X6 M (F85 / F86) page. This page is for the xDrive50i, the V8 model of the regular X6 range.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2018 car, Stage 1 takes it from 449 hp to 580 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 610 hp.
A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($1,999). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
