The car
BMW builds the G87, the second-generation M2, at its San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico. It takes the S58 engine of the current M3 and M4, a 3.0-liter inline-six with two mono-scroll turbochargers, and keeps the compact two-door layout of the M2 (F87), on a 108.1-inch wheelbase that is 2.1 inches longer than the earlier car’s.
A six-speed manual is still standard. The two-pedal choice is now an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic with Drivelogic instead of a dual-clutch, and the rear wheels are driven through an Active M Differential with a locking effect of up to 100 percent. The wheels are staggered, 19-inch at the front and 20-inch at the rear on 275/35 and 285/30 tires.
BMW quotes 0–60 mph in 4.1 seconds with the manual and 3.9 with the automatic, and a curb weight of 3,814 pounds for the manual. Top speed is limited to 155 mph, or 177 mph with the M Driver’s Package. In the years this page covers, the G87 was not offered as an M2 Competition.
On a 2024 car, Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 453 hp and 406 lb-ft to 750 hp and 730 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 785 hp and 750 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2021–2024 BMW M2 (G87) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; figures and prices for each year are shown in the table above.
It is a new generation rather than an update. The G87 has the twin-turbo S58 where the F87 had a single-turbo six, an eight-speed torque-converter automatic instead of a seven-speed dual-clutch, a longer wheelbase and larger rear wheels. The earlier car has its own page, M2 (F87).
Not in the years this page covers: BMW sold the G87 simply as the M2. The car on our M2 Competition (F87) page is the earlier generation, with the twin-turbo S55 engine and a choice of six-speed manual or seven-speed M DCT.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2024 car, Stage 1 takes it from 453 hp to 750 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 785 hp.
A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($1,999). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
