The car
BMW did not slot the M2 Competition above the original M2: it replaced it, from the 2019 model year, and most of the change is under the hood. In place of the single-turbo six came the S55, the twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six of the M3 and M4, revving to 7,600 rpm and cooled by the M4 Competition’s arrangement of central and side radiators plus an engine oil cooler.
An enlarged kidney grille and a reshaped front apron feed those radiators, and a 3.3-pound carbon-fiber strut brace, another part from the M3 and M4, stiffens the front of the car. The choice of a six-speed manual or seven-speed M DCT carried over, as did rear-wheel drive through the Active M Differential. BMW quotes 0–60 mph in 4.0 seconds with the M DCT and 4.2 seconds with the manual.
From outside, gloss-black kidney grilles, side gills, four black chrome tailpipes and a dark M2 Competition badge separate it from the earlier coupe.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 405 hp and 406 lb-ft to 560 hp and 560 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 600 hp and 600 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2018–2021 BMW M2 Competition (F87) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.
The engine is the main change. The original F87 M2 used a single-turbo 3.0-liter six, and the Competition uses the twin-turbo S55 from the M3 and M4 with extra cooling. They leave the factory with different outputs and are listed separately; the original car is on our M2 (F87) page.
No. The second-generation G87 M2 has the S58 engine and an eight-speed automatic option, and it is listed on our M2 (G87) page. This page is only for the F87 M2 Competition, which BMW launched in summer 2018.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2021 car, Stage 1 takes it from 405 hp to 560 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 600 hp.
A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($1,999). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
