About the BMW M4 (G82)

The G82 M4 went on sale in the US in March 2021, and it is a larger car than the M4 (F82) it replaced: 4.6 inches longer, 0.7 inches wider and 0.4 inches taller, on a wheelbase stretched by 1.8 inches to 112.5. That wheelbase matches the G80 M3 sedan, but the coupe stands 54.8 inches tall and seats four.

Its S58 engine is a 3.0-liter inline-six with two mono-scroll turbochargers, a closed-deck block and a forged crankshaft, redlined at 7,200 rpm. In the US the base coupe pairs it with a six-speed manual and rear-wheel drive; BMW quotes 0–60 mph in 4.1 seconds, a curb weight of 3,830 pounds, and a top speed of 155 mph, or 180 mph with the M Driver’s Package. The roof is carbon fiber.

The automatic M4 Competition, the all-wheel-drive Competition xDrive and the lightweight CSL each have their own page.

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 473 hp and 406 lb-ft to 750 hp and 730 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 785 hp and 750 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

FAQ

M4 (G82) tuning questions

More answers in our FAQ

Which years of the M4 (G82) does this tune fit?

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2021–2024 BMW M4 (G82) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.

How do I tell a G82 M4 from the F82?

The G82, listed from 2021, has a large, deep frameless kidney grille, while the F82 of 2015 to 2020 has a smaller, conventional pair. The G82 uses the S58 engine, has a manual-only base model in the US, and is longer, wider and taller. The earlier coupe has its own page, M4 (F82).

Which G82 M4 is listed on this page?

The base coupe with the six-speed manual and rear-wheel drive. The M4 Competition (G82) has the eight-speed automatic and a higher rating, the M4 Competition xDrive (G82) adds all-wheel drive, and the M4 CSL (G82) is the two-seat lightweight; each is on its own page.

What is the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2 on the M4 (G82)?

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2024 car, Stage 1 takes it from 473 hp to 750 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 785 hp.

Do I need a TCU tune for the M4 (G82)?

A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($1,999). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
