The car
BMW M marked its 50th anniversary with the M4 CSL, a run of 1,000 coupes built at Dingolfing from July 2022 and sold in the US as 2023 models. The brief was weight. BMW took out about 240 pounds against the M4 Competition by deleting the rear seats and belts, fitting M Carbon full bucket seats, making the roof, hood and trunk lid from carbon fiber, and adding a titanium rear silencer and M Carbon ceramic brakes.
The S58 inline-six is rated higher than in the Competition and sits in an especially rigid mounting, and the eight-speed M Steptronic drives the rear wheels only. BMW quotes 0–60 mph in 3.6 seconds and a 191 mph top speed. The car rides 0.3 inches lower, and its Nürburgring Nordschleife lap of 7:20.2 made it the fastest production BMW around that circuit when it was launched. Yellow daytime running lights distinguish it from the front.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 543 hp and 479 lb-ft to 750 hp and 730 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 785 hp and 750 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2023 BMW M4 CSL (G82) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.
The CSL has more power from the same S58 engine, about 240 pounds less weight, two seats instead of four and standard carbon-ceramic brakes, and it sits slightly lower. Both are rear-wheel drive with the eight-speed automatic. The M4 Competition has its own page.
Yes. BMW removed the rear seats and seat belts and fitted a partition between the cabin and the luggage compartment, which alone saved 46 pounds. The two occupants sit in M Carbon full bucket seats.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2023 car, Stage 1 takes it from 543 hp to 750 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 785 hp.
A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($1,999). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
