The car
For the 2016 model year BMW freshened the F30 3 Series sedan and replaced the 335i with the 340i, the first 3 Series to use the new B58 inline-six. It was the top of the regular F30 sedan range, below the M3 (F80), and the sedan stayed on sale in the US through the 2018 model year.
The 3.0-liter six has a twin-scroll turbocharger, and the 340i kept a choice that the next generation dropped: a six-speed manual at no extra cost, with rear-wheel drive or xDrive, alongside the eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic. BMW quotes 0–60 mph in 4.8 seconds for the rear-drive automatic and 4.6 for the 340i xDrive automatic.
From 2017 the M Sport package was standard on the 340i. The hatchback 3 Series Gran Turismo also used the engine, as the 340i xDrive Gran Turismo (F34), through 2019.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 320 hp and 330 lb-ft to 435 hp and 445 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 460 hp and 475 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2016–2019 BMW 340i (F30) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.
No. The F30 340i sedan was sold in the US for the 2016 to 2018 model years, and the G20 3 Series replaced it during 2019. The only 340i offered for 2019 was the 340i xDrive Gran Turismo (F34). If your car is a Gran Turismo, contact us before ordering.
The 440i (F32 / F33 / F36) is the coupe, convertible and Gran Coupe family of the same era, with the same B58 engine and gearbox choices. The 340i is the four-door sedan; the 440i trades it for lower two-door or hatchback bodies and arrived a year later, for 2017.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2019 car, Stage 1 takes it from 320 hp to 435 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 460 hp.
A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($1,999). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
