The car
The 4 Series split from the 3 Series in 2014 to carry its two-door and fastback models, and the 440i is the six-cylinder version of that first generation: the F32 coupe, the F33 convertible with its folding hardtop, and the F36 Gran Coupe, a four-door hatchback with a coupe roofline.
The 440i name arrived for the 2017 model year, when the B58 inline-six replaced the engine of the 435i. Only the coupe could be ordered with the six-speed manual, with rear-wheel drive or xDrive; the convertible and Gran Coupe used the eight-speed Steptronic Sport, and all three offered xDrive.
Quoted 0–60 mph times run from 4.6 seconds for the 440i xDrive coupe with the automatic to 5.1 for the convertible. The 4 Series was facelifted for 2018, and for 2020 it received darker taillights and a gloss-black kidney frame.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 320 hp and 330 lb-ft to 435 hp and 445 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 460 hp and 475 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2016–2020 BMW 440i (F32 / F33 / F36) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.
The 435i was the six-cylinder 4 Series for 2014 to 2016, with an earlier engine, and the 440i replaced it for 2017. The catalog starts this page at 2016, a year when US cars were still badged 435i, so check the badge and contact us before ordering if your car is a 435i.
The M440i (G22 / G23 / G26) is the next generation, from 2021, with an uprated six, a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and a much larger grille, and it is automatic-only. The F32 440i coupe could still be ordered with a manual, and the F33 convertible has a folding metal roof.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2020 car, Stage 1 takes it from 320 hp to 435 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 460 hp.
A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($1,999). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
