The car
Land Rover revealed the second-generation Range Rover Sport, the L494, in New York in March 2013 and built it with the same lightweight aluminum approach as the full-size L405. The result was about 800 lb lighter than the steel-bodied Sport before it. It is 5.9 inches shorter and over two inches lower than the Range Rover, rides on a 115.1-inch wheelbase, and could be ordered with an occasional third row for 5+2 seating.
The top engine at launch was the 5.0-liter supercharged V8 from the Range Rover, paired with a ZF eight-speed automatic. V8 models came with Dynamic Response active lean control, continuously variable dampers and a Dynamic mode in Terrain Response 2.
The drivetrain was chosen with the road in mind: a single-speed Torsen transfer case with a rear-biased split is standard, and a two-speed case with low range and an active locking rear differential was available for owners who go further off-road.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 503 hp and 461 lb-ft to 610 hp and 580 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 630 hp and 600 lb-ft.

The SVR is the performance version of the same L494 Sport, developed by Special Vehicle Operations with more output, faster gearshifts, a two-stage active exhaust, Brembo brakes, firmer suspension bushings and sports seats. It has its own page, Sport SVR (L494).
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2016 car, Stage 1 takes it from 503 hp to 610 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 630 hp.
