The car
When the fourth-generation Range Rover, coded L405, was revealed at the 2012 Paris motor show, Land Rover called it the world’s first SUV with a lightweight all-aluminum body. The aluminum monocoque is 39 percent lighter than an equivalent steel body, and model for model the new car weighed up to 350 kg less than the L322 it replaced.
The Supercharged model sits at the top of the early L405 line-up with the 5.0-liter supercharged V8, the same engine Land Rover fitted to the second-generation Range Rover Sport. It drives all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic and a two-speed transfer case with a low range, managed by Terrain Response, so the weight saving did not come at the cost of off-road hardware.
A long-wheelbase body joined the range in the US for 2014, adding 7.3 inches of rear legroom for owners who are driven rather than drive. The later, facelifted version of the V8 car has its own page.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 503 hp and 461 lb-ft to 610 hp and 580 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 630 hp and 600 lb-ft.
