About the Porsche 718 Boxster / Boxster T / Cayman (2.0)

Porsche revived the 718 name in 2016, a reference to its flat-four racing cars of the 1950s and 1960s, when it moved the Boxster and Cayman from six cylinders to turbocharged fours. This page covers the entry level of that range: the 718 Boxster roadster, the 718 Cayman coupe and the 718 Boxster T. For the first time, the coupe was priced below the roadster.

All three use a 2.0-liter flat-four with a single wastegate turbocharger, mounted behind the seats and driving the rear wheels; it revs to 7,500 rpm. A six-speed manual is standard and a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch is optional. With PDK and the Sport Chrono Package, Porsche quotes 0–60 mph in 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 170 mph.

The Boxster T, added for 2020, keeps the engine and makes the driver-focused options standard: PASM sport suspension 20 millimeters lower, Porsche Torque Vectoring with a mechanical limited-slip differential, Sport Chrono, a short-throw shifter, a sport exhaust and 20-inch wheels. Door-pull loops replace the interior handles.

On a 2024 car, Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 296 hp and 286 lb-ft to 380 hp and 350 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 400 hp and 370 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

FAQ

718 Boxster / Boxster T / Cayman (2.0) tuning questions

More answers in our FAQ

Which years of the 718 Boxster / Boxster T / Cayman (2.0) does this tune fit?

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2016–2024 Porsche 718 Boxster / Boxster T / Cayman (2.0) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; figures and prices for each year are shown in the table above.

How is this car different from the 718 Boxster S / Cayman S?

The S models have a larger 2.5-liter flat-four whose turbocharger uses variable turbine geometry, where these cars use a 2.0-liter engine with a conventional wastegate turbocharger. The S is quicker and is a separate catalog entry with its own page, 718 Boxster S / Cayman S.

Which cars does this page cover, and what about the Cayman T?

It covers the 718 Boxster, the 718 Cayman and the 718 Boxster T, all built with the 2.0-liter engine. The Cayman T, the coupe counterpart of the Boxster T, is not named in our catalog, so contact us before ordering for one.

What is the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2 on the 718 Boxster / Boxster T / Cayman (2.0)?

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2024 car, Stage 1 takes it from 296 hp to 380 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 400 hp.

Do I need a TCU tune for the 718 Boxster / Boxster T / Cayman (2.0)?

A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($1,999). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
