The car
Unveiled in Shanghai in April 2015, the 540C sits below the 570S in McLaren’s Sports Series. Underneath it is the same kind of car: a carbon-fiber MonoCell II tub, a mid-mounted 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 and a seven-speed SSG gearbox driving the rear wheels.
The differences are in the details. The engine is rated lower than in the 570S, and McLaren gave the 540C its own aerodynamic package and wheel designs, damper settings aimed more at road driving, and P Zero tires where the 570S uses P Zero Corsas. It was built only as a coupe, with a dry weight from 1,311 kg (2,890 pounds) when fitted with the lightweight options.
McLaren publishes metric performance figures for it: 0–100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, 0–200 km/h in 10.5 seconds and a top speed of 320 km/h (199 mph).
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 533 hp and 398 lb-ft to 730 hp and 650 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 765 hp and 700 lb-ft.

They share the MonoCell II tub, a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 and the seven-speed SSG. The 540C leaves the factory with less power and torque, a different aero package and wheels, softer road-biased damping and P Zero rather than P Zero Corsa tires. The 570S is covered on our 570S / 570GT page.
No. When McLaren announced the 540C in 2015 it said the car was not yet available to order in North or South America, and its later US releases describe the 540C as not sold in the US. It was offered new in Canada and other markets.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2021 car, Stage 1 takes it from 533 hp to 730 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 765 hp.
