The car
Mercedes-AMG describes the GT 4-Door Coupe as the third vehicle it developed independently and its first four-door sports car, drawing on the SLS AMG and the two-door AMG GT. The GT 53 was the six-cylinder way into that car when it reached the US for 2019, below the V8 GT 63 and GT 63 S, and it remained in the range through 2024.
Its 3.0-liter inline-six pairs an exhaust-gas turbocharger with an electric auxiliary compressor, which Mercedes-Benz says reaches 70,000 rpm in under a third of a second to fill in boost at low and middle revs. An EQ Boost starter-generator on a 48-volt system adds brief electric assistance. Drive runs through the nine-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT to AMG Performance 4MATIC+, without the drift mode offered on the V8 cars.
Mercedes-Benz quotes 0–60 mph in an estimated 4.4 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 174 mph. Launch equipment included the AMG RIDE CONTROL sport suspension, six-piston front brake calipers and an electrically deployed rear spoiler.
On a 2024 car, Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 492 hp and 384 lb-ft to 525 hp and 485 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 550 hp and 515 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2019–2024 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupé (X290) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; figures and prices for each year are shown in the table above.
No. The 2027 car announced in August 2026 shares the name but is battery-electric, with two electric motors, an 800-volt battery and no combustion engine. This page is the X290 generation sold from 2019, with the six-cylinder engine and the nine-speed automatic.
The two GT 63 models use a handcrafted 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 in place of the inline-six. Their 4MATIC+ system adds a drift mode, optional on the GT 63 and standard on the S, which the GT 53 does not offer. Each V8 car has its own page: AMG GT 63 4-Door Coupé (X290) and AMG GT 63 S 4-Door Coupé (X290).
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2024 car, Stage 1 takes it from 492 hp to 525 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 550 hp.
A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($2,399). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
