The car
For the second-generation CLA, sold from 2020, AMG developed a new engine, the M139, and each one is assembled by a single technician in Affalterbach. The 2.0-liter four is turned 180 degrees about its vertical axis, placing the twin-scroll turbocharger and exhaust manifold at the back by the firewall and the intake at the front, which allows a lower nose and shorter gas paths. The turbocharger runs on roller bearings, and the engine revs to 7,200 rpm.
An eight-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT feeds AMG Performance 4MATIC+, whose AMG TORQUE CONTROL rear axle has a multi-disc clutch for each rear wheel and makes an optional Drift Mode possible. An aluminum plate and extra bracing stiffen the body, and 19-inch wheels are standard. Mercedes-Benz estimates 0–60 mph at 4.0 seconds, with a 155 mph limit raised to 168 mph by the AMG Driver’s Package.
Unlike the CLA45 AMG (C117) before it, the C118 wears the AMG grille with vertical louvers, a first for a compact AMG.
On a 2024 car, Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 382 hp and 354 lb-ft to 485 hp and 485 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 505 hp and 505 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2020–2024 Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG (C118) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; figures and prices for each year are shown in the table above.
The drivetrain changed throughout. The C118’s M139 engine is turned around with the turbocharger at the rear, the dual-clutch gearbox gained an eighth gear, and the all-wheel drive can split torque between the rear wheels as well as between the axles. The C117 of 2014 to 2019 has its own page, CLA45 AMG (C117).
Both use the C118 body and all-wheel drive, but the CLA35 has a crosswise four based on the A-Class M260 with its turbocharger in the usual place, a seven-speed dual-clutch for most of its years, and a system that varies torque only between the axles. It is listed on its own page.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2024 car, Stage 1 takes it from 382 hp to 485 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 505 hp.
A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($2,399). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
