The car
The C117 was the first CLA, and the CLA45 its AMG model, sold in the US from 2014 to 2019 as a four-door coupe. AMG hand-builds its 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four, which sits crosswise under the hood with the turbocharger at the front, and pairs it with a seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT dual-clutch gearbox and AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive.
Mercedes-Benz’s 2017 specifications give a 106.3-inch wheelbase, a curb weight of 3,457 pounds, 18-inch wheels with 235/40 tires at all four corners and 13.8-inch front brake discs. It estimates 0–60 mph at 4.1 seconds for the 2017–2019 cars, with top speed limited to 155 mph.
The second-generation car that followed for 2020, listed as CLA45 AMG (C118), changed the engine layout, added an eighth gear and gave the rear axle a way to direct torque to each wheel, so it has its own page.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 375 hp and 350 lb-ft to 430 hp and 400 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 450 hp and 425 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2019 car, Stage 1 takes it from 375 hp to 430 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 450 hp.
A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($2,399). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
