About the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT 63 S 4-Door Coupé (X290)

Mercedes-AMG used the GT 63 S to make its point at the Nürburgring: in 2021 one lapped the full Nordschleife in 7:27.8, a record for luxury-class cars that beat the lap record the same driver had set in the fall of 2018.

Against the GT 63 it brings a higher-output version of the same hand-built 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and more standard equipment: dynamic engine mounts, Drift Mode, the RACE drive program, 20-inch wheels, yellow brake calipers and a DINAMICA steering wheel with AMG Drive Unit buttons. Underneath, the two cars use the same gearbox, all-wheel-drive system, air springs and steerable rear axle.

Mercedes-Benz estimates 0–60 mph in 3.1 seconds, with top speed electronically limited to 195 mph.

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 630 hp and 664 lb-ft to 760 hp and 735 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 800 hp and 750 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

FAQ

AMG GT 63 S 4-Door Coupé (X290) tuning questions

More answers in our FAQ

Which years of the AMG GT 63 S 4-Door Coupé (X290) does this tune fit?

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2019–2024 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT 63 S 4-Door Coupé (X290) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.

Does this page cover the GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE?

No. The E PERFORMANCE model adds an electric motor at the rear axle to the V8, making it a hybrid with a different powertrain, and it is not part of this listing. Ask us directly about an E PERFORMANCE car.

What changed during the GT 63 S’s production run?

MBUX infotainment became standard for 2021. For 2023 the V8 models gained a restyled front fascia, its outer air intakes wider and fitted with three vertical fins each, along with revisions to the AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension and a wider choice of colors, wheels and trim.

What is the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2 on the AMG GT 63 S 4-Door Coupé (X290)?

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2024 car, Stage 1 takes it from 630 hp to 760 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 800 hp.

Do I need a TCU tune for the AMG GT 63 S 4-Door Coupé (X290)?

A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($2,399). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
