The car
Mercedes-AMG called the CLA35 the latest point of entry to its range when the second-generation CLA arrived for 2020. It keeps the CLA’s frameless doors and low roofline and adds a twin-louver grille, an AMG front bumper with flics, 18-inch wheels and a round tailpipe at each side of the rear bumper, and it sits below the CLA45 in the same body.
Its 2.0-liter four-cylinder is derived from the M260 of the A-Class and mounted crosswise, with a twin-scroll turbocharger whose divided housing keeps the exhaust pulses apart for quicker response, plus CAMTRONIC valve control and a die-cast aluminum crankcase. A seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT dual-clutch gearbox feeds a variable all-wheel-drive system that ranges from front-wheel drive only to an even 50:50 split.
Mercedes-Benz estimates 0–60 mph at 4.8 seconds and limits the car to 155 mph. From the 2024 update the EPA lists the CLA35 with an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox in place of the seven-speed.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 302 hp and 295 lb-ft to 365 hp and 368 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 380 hp and 380 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2020–2024 Mercedes-Benz CLA35 AMG (C118) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.
The CLA35 has a twin-louver grille, 18-inch wheels as standard and one round tailpipe on each side. The CLA45 from 2020 wears the AMG grille with twelve vertical louvers, standard 19-inch wheels and a pair of round twin tailpipes. The CLA45 has its own page, CLA45 AMG (C118).
The CLA45’s M139 engine, built by one technician, is turned 180 degrees so its turbocharger sits at the back next to the firewall, and it uses an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox and a rear axle that can send torque to each rear wheel separately. The CLA35 keeps the regular crosswise layout and an all-wheel-drive system that varies torque only between the axles.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2024 car, Stage 1 takes it from 302 hp to 365 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 380 hp.
A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($2,399). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
