About the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG (W204)

Sold from the 2008 model year, the W204 C63 put AMG’s hand-built 6.2-liter V8, a naturally aspirated engine, into the C-Class sedan. To carry it, AMG fitted a new three-link front axle with a front track 35 mm (1.4 inches) wider than the regular C-Class, and gave the body a power-dome hood, flared fenders, deep side skirts, a rear diffuser and four polished exhaust outlets.

At launch the gearbox was AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS, a seven-speed automatic with three shift modes, steering-wheel paddles and throttle blipping on downshifts. The 2012 update replaced it with the seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT and added a two-door coupe alongside the sedan. Every version drives the rear wheels, the standard car is limited to 155 mph, and the C63 launched on 18-inch wheels, with 19-inch wheels optional.

The turbocharged W205 that followed has its own page, C63 AMG (W205).

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 451 hp and 443 lb-ft to 550 hp and 510 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 570 hp and 545 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

FAQ

C63 AMG (W204) tuning questions

More answers in our FAQ

Which years of the C63 AMG (W204) does this tune fit?

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2008–2014 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG (W204) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.

Is my C63 a W204 or a W205?

A C63 from 2008 to 2014 is the W204, with the naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 and, from 2012, a choice of sedan or coupe. The W205 arrived for 2015 with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 whose turbochargers sit inside the vee. It has its own page, C63 AMG (W205).

Which gearbox does a W204 C63 have?

It depends on the year. Cars from 2008 to 2011 use AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS, a seven-speed automatic with a torque converter. The 2012 update replaced it with the seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT, which is also the only gearbox offered in the coupe.

What is the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2 on the C63 AMG (W204)?

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2014 car, Stage 1 takes it from 451 hp to 550 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 570 hp.

Do I need a TCU tune for the C63 AMG (W204)?

A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($2,399). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
