About the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG (W205)

AMG moved the C63 to turbocharging with the W205 generation, sold from the 2015 model year. Its hand-built 4.0-liter V8 has both turbochargers inside the vee, an arrangement AMG calls the “hot inside V,” and it drives the rear wheels only, through the seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT and a mechanical limited-slip differential.

The sedan came first. The coupe reached US dealers in summer 2016 as a 2017 model, the same model year as the cabriolet; the coupe shares only its doors, roof and trunk lid with the regular C-Class Coupe, and its flared wheel arches make it 2.51 inches wider at the front and 2.59 inches at the rear, over a redesigned multi-link rear axle. Mercedes-Benz quotes 0–60 mph in 3.9 seconds for the coupe, 4.0 for the sedan and 4.1 for the cabriolet, all limited to 155 mph.

The naturally aspirated car before it is listed as C63 AMG (W204), and the stronger C63 S AMG (W205) has its own page.

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 469 hp and 480 lb-ft to 630 hp and 650 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 650 hp and 670 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

FAQ

C63 AMG (W205) tuning questions

More answers in our FAQ

Which years of the C63 AMG (W205) does this tune fit?

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2015–2018 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG (W205) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.

How do I tell a W205 C63 from the W204?

The engine is the clearest difference. The W205 has a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and was sold from 2015, while the W204 of 2008 to 2014 has a 6.2-liter V8 without turbochargers. A C63 cabriolet is always a W205, since the W204 came only as a sedan and coupe. The W204 has its own page, C63 AMG (W204).

Does this page cover the C63 S?

No. This page is the standard W205 C63, with the mechanical rear differential and a 155 mph limiter. The C63 S AMG (W205) is rated higher and adds an electronically controlled differential, dynamic engine mounts and larger front brakes, and it is listed on its own page.

What is the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2 on the C63 AMG (W205)?

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2018 car, Stage 1 takes it from 469 hp to 630 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 650 hp.

Do I need a TCU tune for the C63 AMG (W205)?

A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($2,399). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
