The car
Two generations of six-cylinder CLS fall under this page. The third-generation C257, sold in the US from 2019 as the CLS450, was the first CLS with five seats, and its rear backrest folds 40:20:40. It came with rear-wheel drive or 4MATIC until the 2022 update, which brought a new front bumper and grille and left only the CLS450 4MATIC, offered through the 2023 model year.
The C257 uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with a 48-volt integrated starter-generator, which assists acceleration, lets the car coast with the engine off and recovers energy under braking, together with a 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic. Mercedes-Benz quotes 0–60 mph in 5.1 seconds with rear-wheel drive and 4.8 with 4MATIC, and a 130 mph limit.
The catalog also lists 2014–2017 under this name. The six-cylinder CLS of those years was the C218, sold as the CLS400 from 2015 with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, a seven-speed automatic until 2016 and the nine-speed for 2017. Its V8 sibling is on the CLS550 (C218) page.
On a 2024 car, Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 362 hp and 369 lb-ft to 430 hp and 470 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 450 hp and 485 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLS450 models. Choose your year at the top of the page; figures and prices for each year are shown in the table above.
No. The CLS400 was the six-cylinder C218, sold for 2015–2017 with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6. The CLS450 is the C257 from 2019, with an inline-six and a 48-volt starter-generator. For 2018 there was no six-cylinder CLS in the US: the C218 was offered only as the CLS550 and the AMG CLS63 S.
Both are C257s with a 3.0-liter inline-six and a 48-volt system. The CLS53 adds an electric auxiliary compressor, the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT nine-speed, AMG Performance 4MATIC+ and AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension, and it is quoted at 4.4 seconds to 60 mph. It has its own page, CLS53 AMG (C257).
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2024 car, Stage 1 takes it from 362 hp to 430 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 450 hp.
A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($2,399). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
