The car
The CLS53 was one of three cars that launched AMG’s 53 series for 2019, alongside the E53 Coupe and Cabriolet, and Mercedes-AMG presented the series as a first step toward a hybridized future. In the US it topped the C257 CLS lineup, above the CLS450.
Its 3.0-liter inline-six works with both an exhaust-gas turbocharger and an electric auxiliary compressor, which builds boost from the moment the car moves off until the turbocharger takes over. The EQ Boost starter-alternator sits between engine and gearbox, adds brief electric assistance and powers the 48-volt system; because it replaces the belt drive at the front of the engine, the six is shorter than a conventional one. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G and AMG Performance 4MATIC+ handle the drive.
AMG RIDE CONTROL+ multi-chamber air suspension with adaptive damping keeps the ride height constant under load and lowers the car at speed, and the front brakes use 14.6-inch perforated discs with four-piston calipers. Mercedes-Benz estimates 0–60 mph at 4.4 seconds; the limiter is set at 130 mph, or 155 mph on summer tires.
On a 2024 car, Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 429 hp and 384 lb-ft to 525 hp and 485 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 550 hp and 515 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2019–2024 Mercedes-Benz CLS53 AMG (C257) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; figures and prices for each year are shown in the table above.
They belong to different generations. The CLS63 S AMG (C218), which has its own page, uses a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 and a seven-speed MCT and was last offered for 2018. The CLS53 arrived with the C257 for 2019 and became the top of the US CLS range, with a six-cylinder in place of the V8.
For 2021 the CLS53 received the MBUX multimedia system with touchscreen control and the latest generation of driver assistance systems, and Surround View and power rear sunshades became standard. Its engine, gearbox and AMG Performance 4MATIC+ drive carried over from the 2019 launch.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2024 car, Stage 1 takes it from 429 hp to 525 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 550 hp.
A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($2,399). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
