The car
The C218 was the second-generation CLS, and the CLS550 its V8 model below the AMG CLS63. For 2012 it replaced the 5.5-liter V8 of the first-generation CLS550 with a 4.7-liter twin-turbo V8, offered from the start with rear-wheel drive or 4MATIC, while frameless side windows and a sweeping roofline kept the four-door coupe look of the original.
AIRMATIC air suspension was standard on the CLS550. The 2015 update brought a new front end with a chrome diamond grille and optional MULTIBEAM LED headlights, added the V6 CLS400 below it, and replaced the seven-speed automatic with the 9G-TRONIC nine-speed: on the rear-wheel-drive car for 2015 and on the 4MATIC for 2016.
Mercedes-Benz estimated 0–60 mph at 4.9 seconds for the 2017 CLS550, with a 155 mph limit.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 402 hp and 443 lb-ft to 580 hp and 650 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 600 hp and 675 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2011–2017 Mercedes-Benz CLS550 (C218) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.
No. The C218 went on sale in the US as a 2012 model. A 2011 CLS550 is the first-generation CLS, with a 5.5-liter V8; the 4.7-liter twin-turbo V8 and the C218 body arrived together for 2012.
Both are C218s. The CLS63 S, which has its own page, uses AMG’s 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8, the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT seven-speed and AMG Performance 4MATIC. The CLS550 has the 4.7-liter twin-turbo V8 and a conventional automatic, with a choice of rear-wheel drive or 4MATIC.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2017 car, Stage 1 takes it from 402 hp to 580 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 600 hp.
A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($2,399). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
