About the Mercedes-Benz E43 AMG (W213)

The E43 was the first AMG version of the W213 E-Class in the US, on sale as a 2017 sedan ahead of the V8 E63 S. AMG took the twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 used across the range, fitted two larger turbochargers, raised boost pressure to 16 psi and rewrote the engine and transmission software.

Drive goes through the 9G-TRONIC nine-speed to AMG Performance 4MATIC with a 31:69 front-to-rear split; its transfer case is a separate unit flanged to the gearbox, which lets AMG set the split for each model. The AMG Sport Suspension is based on AIR BODY CONTROL multi-chamber air springs, with special front steering knuckles and more negative camber at both axles. Mercedes-Benz quotes 0–60 mph in 4.5 seconds and a 130 mph limit.

Only the sedan was offered, for the 2017 and 2018 model years. The E53 took over for 2019, in sedan, coupe and cabriolet form.

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 396 hp and 380 lb-ft to 420 hp and 485 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 455 hp and 520 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

FAQ

E43 AMG (W213) tuning questions

More answers in our FAQ

Which years of the E43 AMG (W213) does this tune fit?

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2016–2018 Mercedes-Benz E43 AMG (W213) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.

Was there a 2016 E43 in the US?

No. The W213 E-Class reached the US for the 2017 model year, and the E43 sedan was part of it from the start; it was sold for 2017 and 2018. A 2016 E-Class is the previous W212 generation, whose six-cylinder model was the E400.

How is the E43 different from the E400 4MATIC sedan?

They share the W213 body and a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6, but the E43’s engine has larger turbochargers and more boost, its all-wheel drive sends most of the torque rearward, and its air suspension is AMG-tuned. Mercedes-Benz quotes 4.5 seconds to 60 mph for the E43 against 5.3 for the E400 4MATIC sedan, which has its own page, E400 (W213).

What is the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2 on the E43 AMG (W213)?

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2018 car, Stage 1 takes it from 396 hp to 420 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 455 hp.

Do I need a TCU tune for the E43 AMG (W213)?

A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($2,399). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
