The car

About the Mercedes-Benz E63 S AMG (W213)

With the W213 generation the E63 S became an all-wheel-drive car that can still behave like a rear-drive one. Its AMG Performance 4MATIC+ system drives the rear axle permanently and uses an electromechanical clutch to vary how much torque reaches the front, all the way down to none, and it includes a Drift Mode.

Under the hood is AMG’s hand-built 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, here with twin-scroll turbochargers and cylinder deactivation as standard. It is paired with a nine-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT that launches on a wet clutch rather than a torque converter. Mercedes-Benz quotes 0–60 mph in 3.3 seconds for the sedan.

The sedan went on sale as a 2018 model and the wagon, with 35 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, came alongside it. Below it in the range sits the six-cylinder E53 AMG (W213), which has its own page.

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 604 hp and 630 lb-ft to 760 hp and 735 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 800 hp and 750 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

FAQ

E63 S AMG (W213) tuning questions

More answers in our FAQ

Which years of the E63 S AMG (W213) does this tune fit?

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2018–2023 Mercedes-Benz E63 S AMG (W213) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.

Was the W213 E63 S sold as a wagon in the US?

Yes. Mercedes-Benz USA offered the E63 S as both a sedan and a wagon, with the same V8, nine-speed MCT and 4MATIC+ drive. The wagon is quoted a tenth slower to 60 mph than the sedan, and its limiter is set at 180 mph instead of 186.

How can I tell an early W213 E63 S from an updated one?

Cars from the 2021 model year on have the revised front, with a larger central intake carrying the AMG grille with vertical slats and flatter LED headlamps; on the sedan the tail lights now reach into the trunk lid. Inside they gain MBUX and a new AMG steering wheel. Early and updated cars share the drivetrain, and this page covers both.

What is the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2 on the E63 S AMG (W213)?

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2023 car, Stage 1 takes it from 604 hp to 760 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 800 hp.

Do I need a TCU tune for the E63 S AMG (W213)?

A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($2,399). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
