The car
Mercedes-Benz kept the upright shape, ladder frame and three locking differentials for the W463A, which arrived for 2019, but rebuilt much of what lies underneath. The front axle now has independent double-wishbone suspension mounted straight to the frame, while a rigid axle stays at the rear, and the 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic replaced the seven-speed. Permanent four-wheel drive moved to a rear-biased 40:60 split.
Engaging LOW RANGE or any of the locks switches the SUV into G-Mode, which adapts the dampers, steering and throttle and holds gears for off-road driving. For the 2019 G550 Mercedes-Benz lists a 113.8-inch wheelbase, 9.5 inches of ground clearance, a fording depth of 27.6 inches and approach and departure angles of 30.9 and 29.9 degrees; it quotes 0–60 mph in 5.6 seconds for 2021 and a 130 mph limit.
The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 carries through 2024, and for 2025 the G550 moved to an inline-six with mild hybrid. The W463 before it is listed as G550 (W463).
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 416 hp and 450 lb-ft to 565 hp and 615 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 585 hp and 635 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2019–2024 Mercedes-Benz G550 (W463A) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.
Start with the model year: G550s from 2019 are the W463A. Look also for a small G symbol in the display when a lock or LOW RANGE is engaged, which signals G-Mode, and for the nine-speed gearbox. The earlier car, with rigid axles at both ends, has its own page, G550 (W463).
The G63 uses a hand-built AMG twin-turbo V8 with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G gearbox, and for 2021 Mercedes-Benz quoted it at 4.5 seconds to 60 mph, more than a second quicker than the G550. Both share the body, frame and locking differentials, and the G63 has its own page.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2024 car, Stage 1 takes it from 416 hp to 565 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 585 hp.
A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($2,399). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
