About the Mercedes-Benz GLC63 AMG (X253 / C253)

With the GLC63, Mercedes-AMG offered a V8 in a mid-size SUV for the first time, and at launch it was the only vehicle in its segment with an eight-cylinder biturbo engine. The hand-built 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 is based on the AMG GT’s engine, which adds dry-sump lubrication, and it drives through a nine-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT with a wet start-off clutch and fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive.

Every version rides on multi-chamber air suspension with adaptive damping, and the GLC63 was sold both as an SUV (X253) and as a Coupe (C253) with a sloping roofline. At launch it used a mechanical rear limited-slip differential. Mercedes-Benz quotes 0–60 mph in 3.8 to 3.9 seconds and an electronically limited 155 mph.

The GLC63 S, with more output and more standard hardware, has its own page.

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 469 hp and 480 lb-ft to 630 hp and 650 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 650 hp and 670 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

FAQ

GLC63 AMG (X253 / C253) tuning questions

More answers in our FAQ

Which years of the GLC63 AMG (X253 / C253) does this tune fit?

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2015–2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC63 AMG (X253 / C253) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.

What changed with the facelifted GLC63?

The 2019 update brought new lighting, the MBUX infotainment system and the AMG DYNAMICS handling control, and it made an electronically controlled rear differential lock standard in place of the mechanical limited-slip unit. Engine, MCT gearbox and 4MATIC+ carried over, and this page covers cars from before and after the update.

How does the GLC63 differ from the GLC43 AMG?

The GLC43, which has its own page, uses an AMG-enhanced 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 with the 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic. The GLC63 has the hand-built 4.0-liter V8 and the multi-clutch MCT gearbox, and its rear differential is a limited-slip or locking unit depending on the year.

What is the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2 on the GLC63 AMG (X253 / C253)?

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2020 car, Stage 1 takes it from 469 hp to 630 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 650 hp.

Do I need a TCU tune for the GLC63 AMG (X253 / C253)?

A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($2,399). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
