About the Mercedes-Benz GLE43 AMG (W166 / C292)

The GLE43 joined Mercedes-AMG’s line of 43 models for 2017 in two bodies. The coupe replaced the 2016 GLE450 AMG Coupe, and the SUV, a companion to it, took the place of the GLE400 as the sportier six-cylinder choice from early 2017.

Each uses the AMG-enhanced 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 with an AMG-enhanced 9G-TRONIC nine-speed and AMG Performance 4MATIC, here with a 40:60 split, less rear-biased than in the C43 and GLC43. Both ride on air springs, and on the coupe the AMG Sport Suspension is based on AIRMATIC with an Adaptive Damping System. The SUV seats five, with 38.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats.

Mercedes-Benz quotes 0–60 mph in 5.6 seconds for both, with the SUV limited to 130 mph and the 2017 coupe to 155. The V6 was uprated for 2019, and the W166 SUV gave way to the new V167 GLE for 2020.

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 362 hp and 384 lb-ft to 420 hp and 485 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 455 hp and 520 lb-ft.

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2015–2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE43 AMG (W166 / C292) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.

Is the GLE450 AMG Coupe the same car as the GLE43 Coupe?

Mechanically they are very close: the 2016 GLE450 AMG Coupe also had a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 and a nine-speed automatic, and for 2017 Mercedes-Benz replaced it with the Mercedes-AMG GLE43 Coupe. The 2016 car is listed on our GLE450 (W166 / C292) page.

How is the GLE43 different from the GLE53 AMG?

They are different generations. The GLE43 is the W166 SUV and C292 coupe with a twin-turbo V6. The GLE53 AMG (V167 / C167), sold from 2021, has a 3.0-liter inline-six with an electric auxiliary compressor and a 48-volt starter-generator, AMG Performance 4MATIC+ and an optional third row in the SUV.

What is the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2 on the GLE43 AMG (W166 / C292)?

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2018 car, Stage 1 takes it from 362 hp to 420 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 455 hp.
