The car
Mercedes-Benz USA first used the GLE450 name on the GLE Coupe, the C292, which joined the W166 GLE range in its launch year, 2016. Badged GLE450 AMG Coupe, it was the six-cylinder version of the new sloping-roof body, below the V8 AMG GLE63 S Coupe, and it combined a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 with a nine-speed automatic and 4MATIC all-wheel drive.
That gearbox was still rare in the range. By the EPA’s listings for 2016, only this coupe and the GLE350 d diesel had a nine-speed automatic, while the GLE350, GLE400, GLE550e plug-in hybrid and the V8 AMG models kept seven-speed gearboxes.
The same V6 and nine-speed carried into the Mercedes-AMG GLE43 Coupe and GLE43 SUV, which have their own page, GLE43 AMG (W166 / C292). Mercedes-Benz later used the GLE450 name again for a different vehicle, the V167 SUV with an inline-six and a 48-volt system, listed as GLE450 (V167).
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 362 hp and 384 lb-ft to 420 hp and 485 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 455 hp and 520 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2015–2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE450 (W166 / C292) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.
No. The GLE450 described here is the GLE450 AMG Coupe, a C292 with a twin-turbo V6. The later V167 GLE450 is a conventional SUV with a turbocharged inline-six, a 48-volt starter-generator and optional E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL, and it has its own page, GLE450 (V167).
Closely. The Mercedes-AMG GLE43 Coupe took its place with the same 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 and nine-speed automatic, and a GLE43 SUV joined it as a companion model. Both GLE43 bodies are listed on their own page, GLE43 AMG (W166 / C292).
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2018 car, Stage 1 takes it from 362 hp to 420 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 455 hp.
A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($2,399). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
