About the Porsche 911 Carrera / Carrera T (991.2)

Turbocharging came to the base 911 with the 991.2 update. From the 2017 model year the Carrera swapped the 3.4-liter naturally aspirated engine for a 3.0-liter flat-six with two turbochargers, which still revs to 7,500 rpm and delivers its peak torque from 1,700 rpm.

The Carrera is rear-wheel drive and was sold as a coupe or cabriolet, with a seven-speed manual or seven-speed PDK. The update also brought a steering-wheel mode switch with the Sport Chrono Package, four-point brake lights and vertical louvers in the engine lid.

The Carrera T, shown in October 2017, revived the lightweight idea of the 1968 911 T. It uses the Carrera engine with a shorter final drive and a mechanical rear differential lock, lightweight rear and rear side windows, less sound insulation and no rear seats, which can be restored at no cost. PASM sport suspension, Sport Chrono and a sport exhaust are standard, and rear-axle steering, not offered on the Carrera, is optional.

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 365 hp and 332 lb-ft to 510 hp and 490 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 530 hp and 510 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

FAQ

911 Carrera / Carrera T (991.2) tuning questions

More answers in our FAQ

Which years of the 911 Carrera / Carrera T (991.2) does this tune fit?

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2017–2019 Porsche 911 Carrera / Carrera T (991.2) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.

Are the 991.2 Carrera 4 and Targa 4 covered by this page?

Our catalog names only the rear-wheel-drive Carrera and the Carrera T for this calibration. The Carrera 4 and Targa 4 of the same years share the 3.0-liter engine but are not listed, so please ask us before ordering for one of them.

How is this car different from the 991.2 Carrera S?

The S uses the same 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine with modified turbocharger compressors, its own exhaust and engine mapping, which give it more output. It is listed on 911 Carrera S / 4S / Targa / GTS (991.2), and rear-axle steering was an option there as well.

What is the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2 on the 911 Carrera / Carrera T (991.2)?

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2019 car, Stage 1 takes it from 365 hp to 510 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 530 hp.

Do I need a TCU tune for the 911 Carrera / Carrera T (991.2)?

A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($1,999). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
