About the Porsche 911 Carrera S / 4S / Targa / GTS (991.2)

Above the 991.2 Carrera sit the cars on this page: the Carrera S and Carrera 4S in coupe and cabriolet form, the Targa 4S, and the GTS models that joined for 2017 as Carrera GTS and Carrera 4 GTS, each as coupe or cabriolet, plus the Targa 4 GTS.

All use the 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six of the base Carrera. In the S models it makes more power through turbochargers with modified compressors, a model-specific exhaust and its own engine mapping, and the GTS goes further with newly developed turbochargers. Every version offers a seven-speed manual or seven-speed PDK, and rear-axle steering became an option on the S cars for the first time.

The GTS models are built on the wide all-wheel-drive body even when they are rear-wheel drive. PASM comes standard, lowered by 10 millimeters on the coupes, along with a Sport Design front apron, black 20-inch center-lock wheels, smoked taillights and a sport exhaust; on the Targa 4 GTS the roll bar is finished in black.

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 444 hp and 406 lb-ft to 570 hp and 565 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 585 hp and 580 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

FAQ

911 Carrera S / 4S / Targa / GTS (991.2) tuning questions

More answers in our FAQ

Which years of the 911 Carrera S / 4S / Targa / GTS (991.2) does this tune fit?

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2017–2019 Porsche 911 Carrera S / 4S / Targa / GTS (991.2) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.

How can I spot a 991.2 GTS among the S models?

Look at the rear. GTS cars have smoked taillights, a silk-gloss black engine-lid grille and black center twin tailpipes, plus GTS logos on the doors and black center-lock wheels. On a rear-wheel-drive GTS a black trim strip runs between the taillights, while the all-wheel-drive models keep the light strip.

Is the 991.2 Targa 4 included?

No. Here the Targa means the Targa 4S and the Targa 4 GTS. The base Targa 4 uses the lower-output version of the engine and does not appear in our catalog, so ask us first if you have one.

What is the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2 on the 911 Carrera S / 4S / Targa / GTS (991.2)?

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2019 car, Stage 1 takes it from 444 hp to 570 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 585 hp.

Do I need a TCU tune for the 911 Carrera S / 4S / Targa / GTS (991.2)?

A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($505). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
