The car
Between the 3.4-liter Carrera and the track-focused GT3, the 991.1 range offered a second tier built around a 3.8-liter version of the naturally aspirated, direct-injection flat-six. This page groups every car that used it: the Carrera S and Carrera 4S as coupe or cabriolet, the Targa 4S, and the GTS models that arrived for 2015.
Against the base cars, the S models stepped up to 20-inch wheels and front brakes with six-piston calipers. Each could be ordered with a seven-speed manual or a seven-speed PDK, and drive went to the rear wheels in the Carrera S and Carrera GTS or to all four in the 4S, Targa 4S and 4 GTS versions.
The GTS, revealed in October 2014, drew more power from the same engine and closed the gap to the GT3. Even the rear-wheel-drive GTS uses the wide Carrera 4 body, and Sport Chrono, a sport exhaust, matte black center-lock 20-inch wheels and PASM dampers that lower the car by 10 millimeters are all standard. A Targa 4 GTS joined for 2016.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 395 hp and 325 lb-ft to 440 hp and 370 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 450 hp and 380 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2012–2016 Porsche 911 Carrera S / 4S / Targa / GTS (991.1) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.
Porsche rates the GTS for more output from the same 3.8-liter engine and builds every version on the wide all-wheel-drive body. It also includes items that are options on other Carreras, such as bi-xenon lights with the Porsche Dynamic Light System and the sport exhaust, plus Sport Chrono, lowered PASM and an Alcantara interior.
The Targa 4S, introduced for 2014, and the Targa 4 GTS, added for 2016. Both are all-wheel drive with the 3.8-liter engine. The Targa 4 has the same roof but the 3.4-liter engine, so it is listed on 911 Carrera / Carrera 4 / Targa 4 (991.1).
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2016 car, Stage 1 takes it from 395 hp to 440 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 450 hp.
A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($505). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
