The car
Shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2015, the 991.1 GT3 RS was the first GT3 RS to combine a PDK gearbox with the wide body of the 911 Turbo. Its rear-wheel-drive chassis uses rear-axle steering and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus with a fully variable rear differential lock, and both tracks are wider than the GT3’s.
The 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six came from the previous-generation GT3 RS 4.0 and revs to 8,800 rpm, and the seven-speed PDK is shifted with paddles on the steering wheel. Porsche quotes 0–60 mph in 3.1 seconds and a 193 mph top speed.
Weight saving shows in the materials. The roof is magnesium, with an 11.8-inch-wide recess that runs over it and continues into the front lid, and both the front and engine lids are carbon fiber. Louvered vents over the front wheels are another mark of this RS.
The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2015–2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS (991.1) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.
The 911 R, built in 2016, uses this car’s 4.0-liter engine but pairs it with a six-speed manual, replaces the fixed wing with a retractable rear spoiler and weighs less. It has its own page, 911 R (991.1).
Its replacement, sold in the US as a 2019 model, revs to 9,000 rpm, uses ball joints on all suspension arms, makes twice the downforce of the GT3 of its day and was the first GT3 RS offered with a Weissach Package. It is listed as 911 GT3 RS (991.2).
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel.
A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($1,999). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
