The car
Porsche built 991 examples of the 911 R, presented at Geneva in 2016 and named after the lightweight 911 R of 1967, a road-homologated racer. It was a counterpoint to the GT3 RS: the same 4.0-liter naturally aspirated engine, but with a six-speed manual as the only gearbox and no fixed rear wing.
Weight was the priority. The hood and front fenders are carbon fiber and the roof is magnesium; the rear window and rear side windows are plastic, insulation is reduced and the rear seats are gone, with air conditioning and audio left as options. Porsche’s US figures put it at 3,021 lb, about 110 lb lighter than the GT3 RS.
Rear-axle steering with its own tuning, a mechanical rear differential lock and carbon-ceramic brakes are standard. A single-mass flywheel and a front-axle lift were optional, and a double-declutch function blips the throttle on downshifts. Downforce comes from a retractable Carrera-style spoiler and an R-specific rear diffuser.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 493 hp and 339 lb-ft to 540 hp and 380 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 560 hp and 390 lb-ft.

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2016 Porsche 911 R (991.1) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.
Yes. Both use the 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six of the 991.1 GT3 RS. The RS sends it through a PDK and wears the Turbo-width body with a fixed wing; the R uses a six-speed manual, a retractable spoiler and lighter materials. The RS has its own page, 911 GT3 RS (991.1).
No. The Speedster, built in 2019, drew on the 911 R during development and uses its carbon-fiber front fenders, but it is an open two-seater with the 991.2 GT3’s engine and particulate filters. It is listed as 911 Speedster (991.2).
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2016 car, Stage 1 takes it from 493 hp to 540 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 560 hp.
