About the Porsche Cayenne (E3.1)

Porsche’s third-generation Cayenne reached US showrooms as a 2019 model. This page covers the entry version of that E3 range up to the 2024 facelift, in both body styles: the SUV and, from the 2020 model year, the Cayenne Coupe, with a roofline 20 mm lower, a panoramic glass roof, individual rear seats and a rear spoiler that extends at 56 mph.

Under the hood is a 3.0-liter V6 with a single twin-scroll turbocharger mounted inside the cylinder V; the Cayenne S above it moves to a 2.9-liter V6 with two turbochargers. Every E3 uses an eight-speed Tiptronic S, a torque-converter automatic, with Porsche Traction Management all-wheel drive.

Compared with the second-generation car it replaced, the E3 is up to 143 lb lighter and brought two features new to the Cayenne: tires of different sizes front and rear, and optional rear-axle steering.

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 335 hp and 332 lb-ft to 425 hp and 440 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 460 hp and 480 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

FAQ

Cayenne (E3.1) tuning questions

More answers in our FAQ

Which years of the Cayenne (E3.1) does this tune fit?

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2019–2023 Porsche Cayenne (E3.1) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.

How can I tell an E3.1 Cayenne from the previous and next ones?

The years tell you most: the E3.1 runs from 2019 to 2023, after a second generation sold through 2018. The 2024 facelift moved the gear selector up to the dashboard, beside a new display layout, and brought more power for every engine and a V8 for the Cayenne S, so those cars are not covered here.

How is it different from the Cayenne S (E3.1)?

The S swaps the single-turbo 3.0-liter V6 for a 2.9-liter V6 with twin turbochargers and is quicker: Porsche quotes 4.6 seconds to 60 mph with Sport Chrono, against 5.6 for this car. The Cayenne S (E3.1) has its own page with its own figures.

What is the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2 on the Cayenne (E3.1)?

Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2023 car, Stage 1 takes it from 335 hp to 425 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 460 hp.

Do I need a TCU tune for the Cayenne (E3.1)?

A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($1,999). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
