The car
The 4S was one of the two cars that launched the 971 Panamera in the US, shown alongside the Turbo in 2016 and delivered from early 2017. It sits between the single-turbo Panamera 4 and the V8-powered GTS, and it drives all four wheels.
Its engine is a 2.9-liter V6 with two turbochargers mounted centrally between the cylinder banks, the same arrangement Porsche used for the 4.0-liter V8 in the Turbo. An eight-speed PDK handles the shifting. By Porsche’s figures, 60 mph arrives in 4.2 seconds, or 4.0 with the Sport Chrono Package; the Executive takes a tenth longer.
Three bodies were offered. Besides the sedan there was the Executive, whose wheelbase is 5.9 inches longer and which has rear-axle steering and soft-close doors as standard, and from the 2018 model year the Sport Turismo, with all-wheel drive like every Sport Turismo.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 434 hp and 405 lb-ft to 530 hp and 630 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 550 hp and 650 lb-ft. The gearbox has its own controller and torque limits, so the optional TCU tune raises them to match, with sharper shifts and stronger clutch clamping.

Our online catalog lists Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes for 2017–2020 Porsche Panamera S / 4S (971.1) models. Choose your year at the top of the page; the figures and prices are the same for every year.
The engines differ. The entry cars use a 3.0-liter V6 with one turbocharger, the 4S a 2.9-liter V6 with two, and the 4S is a full second quicker to 60 mph with Sport Chrono (4.0 against 5.0 seconds for the Panamera 4). The catalog lists the two separately.
It is not. The facelifted 4S keeps a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 but has a revised rating, standard air suspension and the updated 2021 styling, and it has its own page, Panamera 4S (971.2). This page is for the 2017–2020 cars.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and runs on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 pairs the calibration with supporting bolt-on modifications such as downpipes and runs on high-octane fuel. On a 2020 car, Stage 1 takes it from 434 hp to 530 hp. Stage 2 takes it to 550 hp.
A TCU tune is available as an add-on ($1,999). It raises the transmission’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts so the gearbox can handle the extra power. Ship your TCU in the same box as your ECU.
