The car
Rolls-Royce revealed this Black Badge Ghost in October 2021 and called it the purest Black Badge motor car in the marque’s history. It is based on the second-generation Ghost, so it keeps the aluminum spaceframe, all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering, and adds a harder-edged character to a car otherwise tuned for quiet.
Rolls-Royce raised the output of the 6.75-liter V12 and fitted an entirely new exhaust. Pressing Low on the gear stalk makes gearshifts 50 percent faster once the throttle passes 90 percent. The Planar suspension gets more voluminous air springs to limit body roll, and the brake pedal has a higher bite point with less travel.
The darkened chrome is a layer of black chrome one micrometer thick, the cabin uses Technical Carbon veneer woven from carbon and metallic fibers, and a 21-inch composite wheel was developed with a carbon fiber rim built up from 44 layers.
Stage 1 is calibrated for the car as it left the factory and takes it from 592 hp and 664 lb-ft to 715 hp and 715 lb-ft on pump-grade fuel. Stage 2 is calibrated for supporting bolt-on modifications and high-octane fuel, for 745 hp and 760 lb-ft.
